I thought it was pretty cool when the attendent at Mike’s Express Car Wash swiped my credit card into a handheld device then printed a receipt in less than 60 seconds. However, I’m a little leary of a merchant using their iPhone to process credit card payments.

Most credit cards are issued by localbanks or credit unions, and are the same shape and size as specified by the ISO 7810 standard.  Credit cards are issued after an account has been approved by the credit provider, after which cardholders can use it to make purchases at merchants accepting that card.
